forum+ is planning for LGBT History Month 2026, and all the community is invited to join the celebration of local LGBT culture, heritage and history. Our charity is very proud to be curating the official programme for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2026. The celebrations take place during the month of February and forum+ is seeking submissions and exciting ideas for a dynamic cultural exploration and celebration.
The first LGBT History Month was celebrated in February 2005 and LGBT History Month continues to be a vital annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans history. Following the repeal of Section 28, Schools OUT, a group working for the equality of LGBT people in the education system, founded UK LGBT History Month in 2004. The first national campaign in 2005 was a call to: claim our past, celebrate our present and create our future
Last year’s programme for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2025 featured over 40 events with a great diversity of subjects and voices represented. Previous programmes have included a very broad range of events including craft workshops, discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, guided walks, plays, performances, commemorations of local LGBT figures, talks and much more!
The official theme for LGBT History Month 2026 is Science and Innovation. The theme seeks to recognise and emphasise the impact of LGBT+ individuals in STEM fields throughout history and today. Let’s learn together about the great LGBT+ scientists and innovators, including the inspirational Camden and Islington creatives, pioneers, campaigners and community groups.
If you are planning an event in Camden or Islington for LGBT History Month 2026 we would love to hear about it! Activities and events will be included as part of the official programme and promoted widely. From 1st – 28th February be part of the festivities and enjoy a broad range of events including craft workshops, discussions, exhibitions, poetry, plays, performances, commemorations of local LGBT figures, talks and so much more!
Submissions to the programme are welcome regardless of whether they are on the 2026 theme of Science and Innovation. The deadline for expression of interest and initial submissions for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2026 is Wednesday 17th December.
