On Saturday 21st February join forum+ and the Community Partnerships Team at the British Museum for a day long, community focused event marking LGBT History Month. From 11 am – 3 pm there is going to be so much to enjoy as we explore the theme of Science and Innovation. Choose from a number of engaging activities including talks, tours, workshops and more!
🕚 Timed talks and activities
11.30 am – 12.15 pm: Talk and discussion ‘Alan Turing; Pioneer and War Hero?’
- Led by British Museum volunteers Peter O’Hanlon and Edward Phillips
- Places limited to 50 people, first come first serve
12-12.45 and 13.45-14.30 (drop in): Creative activity – Bank Notes and Icons
1.30 pm –2.30 pm: Sappho Workshop
- Creative writing workshop inspired by Sappho’s highly innovative poetry.
- Led by Helen Savage writer and educator. Helen likes to work with and in groups and has delivered many writing workshops to children and adults in the community, in school and custodial settings, in and around London.
- Places are limited to 20 people and sign up is required, first come first serve.
2 pm – 3 pm: Volunteer led LGBTQIA+ tour of the Museum
- Meet in the East Foyer, Clore Centre at 1.55 pm for start
- Places limited to 15 people, sign up on day, first come first serve
Drop-in All Day (11 am – 3 pm)
- Desire, love, identity: LGBTQ+ histories trail (self guided)
- Object Handling with the Community Partnerships Team
- Conversation Corner with forum+
The LGBT History Month Community Event is free to join, for ages 18+ and pre booking is essential. Certain activities will have limited spaces that are allocated on a first come first serve basis. We encourage early arrival to avoid disappointment.
IMPORTANT BOOKING INFORMATION: The event is free to attend, but booking in advance is essential to gain entry to the Museum. You will need a ticket to gain entry on the day – either displayed your phone or printed out. We encourage you to come for the whole day (from 11am) but you are welcome to arrive at any point.
