The Black Cap

Plans for reopening The Black Cap are very much underway and it’s thrilling to now be able to officially share the news! forum+ were delighted to meet with the owners and the project team working to reopen The Black Cap. The discussions were hugely exciting and the vision for the reopened venue is one that will retain and enhance the beloved Black Cap.

Dubbed ‘the Palladium of Drag’, the Black Cap had been an LGBT community and cabaret space for more than 60 years. forum+ (and previously as Camden LGBT Forum) is proud to have secured two ACV designations for the venue, in recognition of the special place this iconic venue holds in Camden culture and heritage. Thank you to everyone who contributed evidence outlining how The Black Cap continues to be very loved and missed by the LGBT and local Camden community.

The Black Cap was closed almost 9 years ago and there is huge thanks due to many individuals and organisations for their generous donation of time and efforts towards reopening the iconic venue. So many have made significant contributions and it is right to highlight the impact of Camden Council, the great Black Captivist Campaigners, the GLA, local and London LGBT press, to everyone who supported the successful forum+ ACV applications and the very many people who have quietly supported the campaign and worked behind the scenes.

forum+ is looking forward to continued engagement with the project team working to reopen The Black Cap, we wish them all the very best in their endeavours and we’re excited to share news and updates with Camden’s LGBT community.

Full details of the planning application for the reopened Black Cap can be found on Camden Council’s website where you can read the proposals. We encourage all the community to have their say and comments are open until 11th February.

Please read the forum+ statement of support for the planning application and make your own comment via Camden Council’s website and if the online comments form has closed, you can still comment via email to planning@camden.gov.uk
